Title: Maryland STEM Festival at Queen Anne’s County Library
Details: Queen Anne’s County Library will participate in the 2017 Maryland STEM Festival from October 31 through November 12 with six official events. The Kent Island Branch events will include Challenge Island on Thursdays, November 2 and 9 at 10:30 a.m. for ages 3-5 with an adult, Create and Launch Rockets on Monday, November 6 at 4:30pm for ages 5-10, and an opportunity for families to design catapults for a Miniature Marshmallow Launch on Saturday, November 11 at 2:30pm. The catapults are a drop-in event with no registration required. Registration for the other STEM Festival events at the Kent Island Branch is now open at calendar.qaclibrary.org or by calling 410-643-8161. Challenge Island provides educational enrichment and is on the forefront of S.T.E.A.M. Education and 21st Century Learning. During Antarctic Iceburg on November 2, preschoolers and their caregivers will learn about penguins and design a penguin toboggan ride. At Mayflower Harbor on November 9, registrants will build their own Mayflower and race it on a water track. STEM Festival events at the Centreville Branch are Preschool Science on Tuesday, November 7 at 10:30 am for ages 3-5 with a caregiver and Ozobots on Wednesday, November 8 from 1-5pm for grades K-8. During Preschool Science, young children will learn about the science of colors through books, flannel boards, and experiments. Both are drop-in events and do not require pre-registration. The Kent Island Branch also offers coding and gaming for ages 8-14 on Mondays and Thursdays through November from 3-5pm. Popular games include Minecraft, Roblox, and DwarfFortress.
