Introducing myself
I have been lurking around the background for months, getting inspiration, advise and tips from the forum, thanks guys! so I thought it is probably a good time to come out the closet!Rainy day in Scotland so a perfect time to share what I do on wet and windy days. Just registered at the image hosting company so I hope the link works! I saw a painting like this of a forum , I think it was done in acrylics so I just had to try as I loved the colours. ![]() Hope to see you all around. |

Hi Joey, Welcome onboard. I have often visited your website too. I see we're both familiar with Barry at Wakes Waxes. Nice painting, very warm and bright. Those birds just flying above the horizon are a nice touch too. Hope to see more of you here.

Hi Jobelle, I love those colors. Looks like you had alot of fun painting that one! Welcome to the forum. I'm pretty much new myself. But, its always nice to have one more artist to share with. Sue is right, you will always be learing something new with art. No matter how much we know, theres always something we didn't catch before that adds to the experience. Take care and great job on the painting.

Thank you all, this is so nice - feel like I belong already! Sue, nice to hear somebody visits my website and knows Barry! Why is there no encaustic on your site? What a sweet man (Barry) and always so prompt and helpful with orders! As for my website, I built it myself and it is an ongoing saga with using free software and only being able to put 12 images per gallery, etc. Must get to grips with another programme but I don't want to build websites, I want to paint so how much energy do I put into it! For somebody who has always been a bit of a colour phobe, I love making very bright paintings! My house is painted brilliant white inside and out, 90% of my wardrobe is black, and then the paintings - you just never know what will pop out! Must say, since frequenting this forum I have moved over to W & N - Winton range and I love both the paints and the colours, and the way it paints. Somehow I seem to be in a red and yellow stage, every time I pick up a brush I head straight for those colours. Keep telling myself it is a development stage, as long as you enjoy it, continue! Have to get ready for a show tomorrow. Hopefully pop back here over the weekend. Thank you all again for the warm welcome. Regards, Jo |

Oh yes, also wanted to mention the long canvasses. I love painting on them and they seem to be quite good sellers. Au Naturell was taken over by another company a few weeks ago and when I walked in there they had a serious sell out of all canvass with the old name on it - I got packs of 3, size 30 x 20cm (wide side) canvass for just over £3, needless to say, I got quite a few boxes which are now stored in my attic! Brings me to another subject - I find it quite hard to paint around the sides as it is tedious although striking so sometimes I take acryllic or gesso and just paint the sides another colour, what do you guys do? I like doing the sides as people then do not have to frame if they do not want to and I also think it is a more modern look. As I am getting over enthusiastic now, here's another long one that I love. Had this framed at a gallery which cost a fortune! (£40!!!) but looks truely spectacular, however, image with the frame is bad to see the painting so here it is without. Living in Scotland, I do love making mountains in this style. ![]() Have a lovely weekend and happy painting to all.

Jobelle Another beauty...love it. If you are using free software to build a site, then go to WWW.FREEWEBS.COM. You can build a decent site, with no limitations as to how many pages, or Images. Take a look at mine at www.freewebs.com/jerrymc. I put this together in about an hour. If you need any advice/help, let me know. Jerry |

another lovely one joey. i like the way the mountains just fade off into the distance - give the painting real depth i agree robert, this letterbox canvas works well. i've started selling these from my classes - they're not that economical to post unfortunately - like joey says, you just gotta grab 'em when you see 'em. |

Great perspective on that second piece. The way the details fades into the distance is JUST right. |

Thank you all so much for your comments. Might have to change the name of the first one to sunrise then! Not an early bird so I haven't seen too many sunrises, I'm more of a sunset person, probably because that's when you can have a sundowner! To me the percpective on the mountains worked well, it was one of those where things just happened! I love it when that happens and I think the best work comes out then - just me in my own little world with the brain switched to neutral! Had a good show yesterday, didn't sell one oil but had lots of positive feedback and admiration so we live in hope! Sold some encaustic and strangely enough, quite a few bits and bobs (bookmarks, cards and framed pieces )that I made last week when I was playing with ink on encasutic card and got some lovely effects. Strange how you sell what you least expect! Just had a e-mail for somebody who admired another encaustic work (Called Global Warming on my www) as she is so sorry she didn't buy it and can I keep it for her! Strange how often this happens! Funny how life works. I love encaustic but all I want to do is paint in oil, now people all want encaustic! Wonder if Murphy is at work here, maybe if I stop painting and do more encaustic my oils will move at a rapid rate??? Just have to share one more thing. The organisers from the show I was at yesterday brought me a copy of a magazine called The Home Seeker - the ultimate homes and lifestyle magazine (big glossy magazine with close to 100 pages). There was an article done and it mentions this show (in the art section of the magazine). On a 2 page spread with 4 photos, 2 of well known artist, is a full page width photo of my stall at the fair - good photo quality as you see my whole table but you can actually see the details on the pictures! I'm not mentioned by name but they do give the dates of the fairs.I live in hope and am going to contact them to see if they'd like to do an article, after all, out of all the stalls they could have put on.......If you've read this far, I thank you. I'm at home alone and bubbling over with excitement so it's nice to have a place to share!

That's good news all-round there jobelle. I'd not been able to see any difference between sun-up and sunset either but when I saw your painting it was so bright ... I always associated sun-down with a darker less brilliant image Ok on the mountains, I think those are/maybe called 'happy accidents' and I think describes my best paintings to a 'T' ... a happy accident My wife has encaustic gear here and I have had a try. I'm not an abstract person though so I've left it to her. It's good to hear your news, I hope it all comes nicely to fruition for you. jim |
