Message:   Back in the 50's, one of the air crews brought back from a TDY in Alaska a totem pole that they put in front of their HQ.

One night, another squadron stole it and put it in front of theirs.

This went on and on for a few years with the pole appearing at various places on base.

One day, a friend of ours, Gene Long, and some of his squadron buddies stole it and put it in front of their HQ. A day or so later, Gene and his entire aircrew were killed taking off from Omaha enroute back to MHAFB. Gene left behind his wife, Althea, and a son and daughter, Tom and Jana, whom you may remember. They lived on Phelps Circle, right next to the Peavlers.

After that, by understanding, the totem pole remained in front of Gene's squadron's HQ unmolested.
