Book Reviews & Recommendations
What are you reading now? Favorite Christian author? Book Recommendations? My favorite authors right now are : Terri Blackstock - just finished reading Breaker's Reef. She write a good mystery with a strong Christian witness. I also recently read Alton Gansky's "Before Another Dies". I have recently come to appreciate this author's mystery writing. Definately a page turner! One I also read recently I enjoy greatly was "A Shred of Evidence" by Kathy Herman I would love to discuss this one if anyone read it. I love the point she makes in it. A book that was very different from what I usually read but I would DEFINATELY recommend is "Stardust on my Pillow" by Pasty Clairmont. It was a very interesting collection of short stories. I enjoyed exploring it seeing what each story held. |

Hi Kerri, The last book i have read is "The DaVinci Code" by Dan Brown. It is definatly a thriller and will be in a movie theater near you sometime next year. Tom Hanks is the star and directed by can't think of his name right now. Have you read it or heard discussions about the book. He has also written Angels and Demons which I have read. I also have recently read "The Summons" by John Grisham. I haven't read his latest book called "The Broker" though. Comments. Phil |

I haven't read "The DaVinci Code" but I have heard some things about it. From what I have heard it sounds a bit weird . Sounds like some people are really believing it and according to what I have heard it is a really off as far as talking about the Lord Jesus.I haven't read any of Grisham's books but I have heard good things about them. Does he seem to have a witness in them? That is what someone told me. I imagine you would like some of Alton Gansky's books. He has some interesting ideas. I liked "A Treasure Deep" and "Beneath they Ice" of his Perry Sachs Series. The third one gets a little strange in its conclusion. In that series Perry is a engineer/ archeologist. Interesting ideas. Gansky's J.D.Stanton Mysteries offered unique views in dealing with ideas like the Burmuda Triangle. They weren't your usual Christian fiction

The Da Vinci Code rejects the Deity of Christ and also denies the TRUTH found only in the bible. Check out the following link: The Antichrist and the Da Vinci Code? Jesus is Lord! |

Not many have commented on any of these topics but in case anyone is at least reading this I want to write down some of my latest recommendations. I have just finished the new series by Colleen Coble, The Aloha Reef series. It is really good. The first book is Distant Echoes and the second book is Black Sands. The are set on some of different islands that make up Hawaii and are really good mysteries. I am anxiously awaiting the new Dee Henderson book that is coming out soon. I look forward to reading it. Anyone else read something really good lately? |

Kerri, I realize that it's been awhile since there has been a post on here, and I may be way late on this, but I couldn't pass up an opportunity to discuss some of my favorite topics...books and christian authors!!! Lori Wick is one of my favorites for a light read. She has an easy way about her stories, but they are always powerfully inspirational. Now, Francine Rivers, is an amazing author...and I just love her "Mark of the Lion" series. She has a lot of depth in her stories. A husband/wife team I like it Brock and Bodie Thoene. Very good stuff. Historical fiction...powerful!I have never read anything by Gansnky. Is it Christian?? Nor have I read any of Kathy Herman...I may try to find that one!! Okay, I'll stop for now before I wear out my welcome!! lol Have a blessed day, Kerri. |

I'm thrilled to have someone post on here. And I always enjoy discussing books. Yes Gansky is Christian. That is about all I read is Christian fiction. I agree that Lori Wick is an easy one to read. She gives an excellent witness in her books. The only books I have read by Francine Rivers are the ones she did on the women in the line of Christ, but they were very good. Have you read those? I just finished last night the third in Tim LaHaye's new Series. Have you read the Left Behind series he and Jerry Jenkins authored? They were good. This new series is an action series and deals with alot of prophecy. It is called Babylon Rising series. I find some of Tim LaHaye's ideas interesting but I'm not sure if I agree with them all yet. Thanks so much for posting and hope to here from you again.

Kerri, I have read most of the Tim LaHaye's Left Behind series. My husband has read all of them, but I still have 2 or 3 to go. It has been so long since I read the last one I am considering starting all over at the beginning. Have you seen the movies that go along with the books...the ones with Kirk Cameron? I don't think I've read the Francine Rivers series that you mentioned. I'll definitely have to check into it. Right now we are in the process of moving out of state...so I don't have ANY time to read, but one of my first stops once we are settled will be the local library! Have you read any of the Thoene's stuff?? If you like historical fiction at all, the Zion Chronicals and the Zion Covenant ( I think those are the names of the 2 series) are definitely worth the read. I don't have them in my personal library yet...but that is my goal!! Take care!! |

Yes, We have seen all three of the movies. I think they were too conservative with their witness in the first one that was released to theaters. The second was good as far as a witness. Both the second and third have taken quite a few liberties with the script. Certainly not as close to the book as I would like, but I understand the time constraints. I just finished a good book by Lynn Bulock, called "Love the Sinner". It is the first in a new mystery series. "Less Than Frank" is the second in the series and I hope to get it soon. I may have to wait till my birthday, but we will see. I make a birthday list and Christmas list of books. So usually get a big box of books twice a year.

Kerri, I believe that the "liberties" with the script has something to do with a feud about the whole thing. I'm not sure of all of the details..but maybe someone out there can help us out! I have had NO time to read lately! As soon as we get this move over I'm going to sit down with a stack of books!!!

I love Christmas and my birthday. I always get a box of new books. Two of the books I have read so far are the beginnings of new series. I would recommend both as they definately kept my interest. I am ready for the next book of the series. Book one of To Catch a Thief series by Jill Nelson is Reluctant Burglar. It was a mystery that actually stayed a mystery for over half the book. I enjoy most mysteries, but too often I have figured it out well before the end of the book. The next new series I began is the newest by Brandilyn Collins. She is a very talented author who writes books that keep you on the edge of your seat for the whole book. Her new series is Kanner Lake and the first book is Violet Dawn. Some aspects of the book are very sad and upsetting in that it deals with child abuse, but is overall a good action story that keeps you reading. Anyone else out there read anything good lately? |
