Homeschool

Do you homeschool? Why? Why not? What curriculum would you recommend? Any tips? Reasons not to?

Re: Homeschool

We have home schooled our son (who is now 17 and a senior) since 3rd grade. We use the ACE program and are very fond of it. The program is KJV based and centers around Godliness. Our son preferred homeschool and when asked if he wanted to go back to public school, he replied, "Oh no, Momma, people don't like God there!" How sad but true is his statement!? Now that's the main reason why we homeschool!! Thanks for listening!! bye

Re: Homeschool

I think it is great you homeschool. I graduated from an ACE school and I enjoyed it greatly. I loved being able to progress at my own rate. In homeschooling my daughter we chose a mixture of ACE, ABEKA, and Christian Liberty Press. It worked well for both of us. I was thrilled that the transition from homeschool to college went so well after it.

Re: Homeschool

Kerri,

Just thought I'd pop into this topic as well. We are a homeschooling family. We will beging our first "official" year this coming fall. Our children are 4 and soon to be 6.

I really like Ruth Beechick and some of Charlotte Mason. The Heart of Wisdom curriculum looks really great. My daughter, our oldest, really likes workbooks and such...which doens't jibe with CM or RB. So I am considering Alpha Omega for my basics and then a lot of living books on the side.

Prayer is my main goal at the moment. I have a few more months to "work out the kinks" and I am certain that prayer is the ONLY thing that will see me through!!!

Re: Homeschool

I'm not really familiar with the work of the two ladies you mentioned. I am familiar some with alpha omega. I personally love ABEKA and ACE. Sometimes I wish I had homeschooled Katy from kindergarden all the way through. If I were to homeschool one now starting at the beginning I think I would probably use ABEKA. They have a really good elementry curriculum that builds year after year and continues on into the higher grades. I love the way it just adds more detail and depth each year. Here is the link if you would like to check them out. http://www.abeka.com/
You can find some abeka stuff at Christian Liberty press also. Some of the stuff they publish is good also. I am using their English for the girl I am homeschooling now. I used it for my daughter too. But that is for middle and high school. Anyway the link for that is http://ebiz.netopia.com/clpress
