Gardening

Doom and Gloom from uk it seems as if things have gone down hill so much since we left so thought I would cheer you all up with the latest news from the Cotillard gardening club, runner beans are going great, carrot's also, today we purchased a rhubarb plant [have already got four], lots of beetroot seedlings, and letuce, plus strawberry plants to put in hanging basket so all going well, Arthur has said it is a dawn start tomorrow to sort it all out, at the moment he is in his como state so do not think dawn start is on the cards. Next time will email picture of como potion plus veggi garden Have a good day all byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Re: Gardening

Hey Daphne, we have some nice juicy Blackberries to go with your Rhubarb. Don't forget to plant your onions alongside your carrots, and a few French marigolds amongst your runner beans.

Re: Gardening

Daph - We just love rhubarb crumble. Got lots of apples to go with your blackberries Tommo. Been working hard on re-potting Lady B's geraniums so they last through the winter. Weather has been the best we've had all year - lots of sunshine!!! Lord B.

Re: Gardening

I dont like gardening either but jean says I do.
Just thought Daph and Art. If you plant your onions (i didnt say sew) upside down and the Rhubarb put my post code on I and jean will help you eat these lovely veg. Note if you want to grow potato plant them in a deep drum(plastic) you should get 3 layers in and it saves piling earth up over them. I works,

Re: Gardening

Hi Roger
Thanks for all info on veg sorry but no onions, you can always come on over and help us eat it all thats if it all can stand the heat and we manage to get a crop, today it is over 30c.and it is only early spring.
I have heard of planting potato's in drums but never seen it do I put a lot of soil then a layer of potato then another layer of soil etc. will await your advice.

Re: Gardening

You got the idea go to it, also if you plant nestertions (Dont know the spelling.Whats ne i hear you say.) trail them over edge of drum looks lovely.
If you grow marrows listen in. 1) take 2 21/2
inch off top of marrow. 2) scoop out all the seed.only the seeds mind 3) Cram as much brown sugar in When full put the top back on(use sticky tape to hold top on) 4)Put in to a stocking , tights hang in warm dark place.5) when juise starts to ooze out where you taped the top. 6) make 2 -3 holes in bottom of marrow and let it drain into a bottle. cover bottle for 2 weeks Then cork it leave for a couple of months and you will have a very sweet rum. It is very strong
and tastey

Re: Gardening

Don't you listen to them Roger I am taking it all in, we use to use the marrow in the same way but think the ants would love it here, also it was 30c yesterday and getting warmer so do not think the marrow would survive, I will get my digger Art to use a bit of arm muscle to help with the plastic bin.
