I've been using a front-loader (Kenmore), which is an energy-saving one. I wash large loads of diapers every other day, and can use warm (vs. hot) water; they are always cleaned well. The machine seems to be holding up just fine, and I use less detergent, etc. than is indicated on the packages. Also tend to use some borax in the wash, a little bleach, and some vinegar in the rinse cycle to make sure the detergent is rinsed out.
It woul be nice to have a side-by-side comparison, but lacking that, I know my experience is good with the front-loader.
