I am in a power chair full time and getting in tight spaces can be tough with a wheelchair. The best thing is to start measuring your interior doors. Another thing to consider is if you to get an ultralight chair, many of them have cambered axles which makes the "stance" of the chair wider as the tires reach the floor. Also, add another couple inches for handrims.
If you do own your home, you should really consider hardwood or laminate floors. Pushing on carpet can kill your shoulders for sure.
For dealing with incontinence, there is really no single solution for everyone. Some use a sheath and bag, others may use diapers or often alternate between both. Clothing can also be an issue but I find oversize sweats to be a real help. If you're sitting during the day, you don't have to worry about your pants falling down. |
