Power chairs can be expensive or very expensive depending on what you want.

Depending on your needs and the type of chair you would need they can get costly.
I bought a Permobil, which is in the Cadillac of chairs the base alone starts at around
$10,500 and the seating can go up to $15,000 and higher.
But you can also get an Invacare if you don’t need a rehab chair for around $4,000 also a pride in the same ballpark. Both pride and Invacare also make rehab chairs but they are not cheap either. I really like the Permobil it is a fantastic chair. Like I said in my last post I got the S package, which gives you more speed, a gyro which helps keep the chair going straight.

But my doctor wanted me to have special seating more for comfort one of the options he insisted on the was power legs rest lifts. This was a $1,500 option.

You sound like my self 30 feet is a long walk for me anymore and when I do it all at once I will live in pain for a day or more. I am on Fentanyl patches for pain now along with Tylenol #3.

I don’t know if you have insurance or Medicare but if you can qualify they may pick up the cost of a power chair.
In my case I was refused the power chair but did get a manual chair you really need both. Bad point you don’t tell them what chair you want they tell you and usually it is the cheapest thing they can get away with. I got lucky I was over weight so they had to give me a much better built manual chair than they wanted and even a manual chair can cost $2,000.
I am now going for my second manual chair I wore out one in 6yrs we are waiting for the insurance to approve it now.

My choice in a power chair is a front wheel drive chair. They are much more maneuverable than a rear wheel drive chair.

I hate to say you will find out the cost of being handicap or being sick is not cheap.
You will have to have a way to hall your chair whether it be a van or something else.
I use a Toyota Tacoma van with a lift in the rear. This will work if you can walk to the chair.

One more thing if you would buy a new van most car manufactures will give you $1,000 to 1,500 off on any handicap device needed. My lift cost $3,500 and Toyota gave me a $1,000. Dodge has a van already built for the handicap close your eyes sit down and let someone tell you the price.

I wish you all the best
Lyle
