SMOKING BAN IN BARS - YOUR OPINION?
Smoking in bars - for or opposed? Like it or not - it seems to be the way things are going with most bars today at least in Bangkok. This is the lead story from our current March Newsletter asking your opinion on the matter that we would like to see here. As always, we value your opinion here but do not tolerate personal attracts. Only been an issue on the rarest occasion in the past but as this is such a controversial issue we will remind you to respect the opinions of others no matter how much you may personally disagree. That said - what's your opinion of the current ban on smoking in bars? - - Johnny |

Hi so I’m an unhappy happy chap. Surprised...? I by force of habit have a cig burning in the ashtray every game I play, so a few guys on my team who don't smoke are always telling me anyway. It’s a p***er for me. I heard they did it in UK and many other countries. But I feel there’s more that a certain un-named country here has more things to worry about before they get to smoking issues. I like Thailand because I feel freer to be who I want to be, un-like in England. There are so many little niggling rules and regs’ in the UK and western society now that’s it’s just silly. I hope Thailand doesn’t get that way too soon otherwise we will have to all move over to Cambodia. KaptainK |

I am one very very unhappy camper over this issue. I agree with KaptainK, I'm here for the freedom of being myself. I have played all of my darting life in bars with cig in hand and the thought of having to step out side the bars when playing on a darts night sucks big time. When I'm playing a game I tend to light up more, it calms my nerves and I throw some good darts. When the time comes and I can no longer do that, my game will go to pot and I'll be easy pray even for the likes of our great friend Jayke. "Oh whoe is me"

In complete agreement of all that has been said above.Have allready noticed that smokers are having problems when it comes to the finish, and they cant consentrate without the ciggie to calm ther nerves

Maybe I'll get that elusive win against Kenny now his nerves are shot As a non smoker never had a problem with it at all- why on earth any country would enforce this rule is beyond me. What surprised me was Ireland introducing the law long before the UK and Thailand I thought would never see fit to do such a thing. On a different note there are plands to introduce gambling in Thailand at last- all that money i could have won betting against Kieran at darts keeps me awake at night Would have been far easier if they left the smoking rule up to the discretion of the bar owner- Won't affect the Silver Dollar of course as Ned has only just realised prohibition has ended in the USA

If it was illegal to smoke in bars, then wouldn't the police be out in droves checking all the bars and handing out tickets to those bars that were breaking the law. I have been in many bars and not seen one policeman checking bars out. I do believe it comes into effect on the 1st of June. From the 11th of February to then is a get ready period.

All PLAYERS that still want to play darts can still go for a No 6 or No 10,we dont want to stand outside in the FALLING RAIN,BUREE will still be moaning. So in a sport we thought WOODBINE us all together,we are now seperated.Maybe we should all take up bowling where we can still have a LUCKY STRIKE

I'll say it again. If it was illegal to smoke in bars then why aren't the police out in force.

Seems like we have a far more tolerant group of non-smokers here in Thailand than in other places. Not only because no one has posted in favor of the (supposed) smoking ban here but around the bars as well. Haven heard any non-smoker saying how great the change is. Not so on the SEWA darts discussion forum where I posted the news. Quite an active debate on that thread. Here's the link and topic title if you care to have a look. Thailand Dart Bars GO Non-Smoking? http://sewa-darts.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewforum&f=1 Just for the record - I think that cigarette smoking is a dirty, disgusting habit. Cigar smoking is so much more refined as well as pleasing to the people around you. Johnny

both Grant and I are 'reformed' smokers - Grant only for 3 years and me nearly 30 - I really don't care one way or another about smoking in bars, But think it should be up too the bar owners to choose. I just think it's very sad that Thailand is being brain washed by western standards - we don't want all the PC crap here in Asia - Ladies dart night is one thing - but giving them real jobs is not on !

Hmm, see four Bangkok dart locals got mention on SEWA's above mentioned forum. 2 lads that support some kind of football team called Stoke - a Kiwi gal and a darts captain the spells the word kaptain. A-non-a-mus (Latin spelling as taught in New Jersey skol systems) |

Now here's a subject close to my heart or maybe my lungs. Firstly Kenny, Keiran my sentiments exactly. Since the no smoking ban came into effect here the pub industry has deminished considerably. I speak with all the landlords at the pubs i go to at away games and in unison they all see their future in another industry. Pubs (other than theme bars) are empty save for a few stalwart drunks who haven't even noticed. generally the best place to be is outside in the specially designated area for smokers. My local is the best place in town to play darts yet on Friday and Saturday nights i am the only one in there. But lads there is a silver lining. Assuming that Thailand's efforts to appear part of the international pioneering thrust by copying anything that the UK does. I have it on good authority that government ministers are secretly looking at giving individual landlords the choice of being a smoking pub or not/or designating a bar within a pub as smoking as long as they can isolate it. If this is passed ( once they've come up with a way of not looking like they're going backwards) Thailand should follow suit. Is this going to make open bars more attractive or are they screwed as well, also i hear that banning the use of mobile phones while driving has just been introduced there. Perhaps someone should alert the Thai government that over here we jail politicians for serious improprieties not reward them. If they fall in line with that one well!!!!!!!!!! |

It wasnt me who censored that Jayke it was the Yanks who run this site.I typed the English slang word for cigerette as in F** and into, why they censored into I dont know sorry. The candy cigerettes I believe where banned because they encouraged children to smoke.
