Darts Quiz Question #16
What is the distance, in a direct line, from the oche on the floor to the centre of the bullseye ? (this measurement is actually used to check the distance and height of a board at the same time). Double points will be awarded if you give the correct answer in metric as well as imperial measurements. |

This one I know - 9' - 7 1/2" OR 5' - 8 " from floor to center bull & 7' - 9 1/4" to oche from a line dropped plum from the bull to the floor to the oche. I did not Google this nor do I remember it. It's marked in permanent ink on the inside of my cigar case along with my mobile number which I am also incapable or feel worthwile remembering. I do however remember to pack along my tape measure in my camera bag to check any board challenged. Rarely does a board measured prove to be unacceptable - more than 1/4 ". |

Thought you carried the tape measure to measure the froth(head) on your beer to ensure you wernt wasting Satang Very inaccurate way of measuring the board this, can mean the board and the Oche are both out Wont bother with the answer just give me the points Grant AS ABOVE

No one has yet gained maximum points for this question - both imperial AND metric measurements have been asked for. Come on guys and gals, do the math ! |

Well, how simple this should be (not)... The World Darts Federation says: “...(the) measurement diagonally from the center of the bullseye to the floor (is) 2.931m (115-3/8")...” (That's 9' 7 3/8”) The Thailand Darts Association (www.tdadarts.com) says “...the diagonal line from bullseye to the front of the throw line is 2m 96cm or 9' 7 3/8” for steeltip...” However, both the American Steel Tip and British Darts Organisations quote the distance, diagonally, from the centre of the bullseye to the toe line on the floor as 9ft 7 1/2inches, or 2934mm. Which one is correct ? Trigonometry proves that if one side of a closed triangle measures 5ft 8in and another measures 7ft 9¼in, then the remaining side of the triangle has to measure 9ft 7 3/8 inches, or 2931mm. But.. look again at the difference between the quoted metric measurements above between WDF and TDA for the same imperial measurement – there’s a 29mm variance ! Countries have gone to war over less ! A point each for Dartoid, Johnny and Harry. Actually Johnny's answer was so concise he revealed the answers to my next couple of questions as well ! But that's ok, I have more. For imperial to metric conversions, 24.5mm = 1 inch |

If I remember correctly the distance of 7ft91/4 inches is the distance from the wall to to Oche, the extra 11/4 inches being allowed for the thickness of the dart board But I have been known to be wrong, more than once Back to Dartoid
