Fishing Report ~ The word is out. The bullheads are biting.

Updated on March 31 5:00 pm - The word is out. The bullheads are biting. I was told this morning that they have been catching bullheads in Wilson.

Saturday I was down at the breakwall, near the two piers and a guy I know from Cheektowaga(sp) had been there for a while and he had one nice perch and had thrown back a lot of little ones. They were biting slow. He had gotten there early in the morning and said it was still pretty cold out. He had ice forming on the top of his minnow bucket. He was using minnows. There was no one at the boat launch.

I just left the piers and there were three people fishing with no fish when I got there. The water is muddy and a little high now.

No one at the boat launch today. The ice is almost gone from the bay too.

12 Mile creek East Branch is running fast and real muddy. No one there.

12 Mile Creek West branch in Roosevelt Beach is muddy and has some current in it and there were three guys fishing for bullheads. They had none when I was there. It may pick up later tonight though.

This is the time for year when we use to catch a lot of bullheads after dark. I'll check later to see if anyone is fishing tonight.

Re: Updated Fishing Report ~ PERCH!

Posted Monday 2:00 pm April 7 ....

Sat and Sun April 5 & 6 2008 ........
The perch were hitting off and on at the Breakwall near the Wilson, Piers. Minnows are the preferred bait. Usually, the bigger the minnow, the bigger the perch. That is if you can find some large minnows. Double hook the minnows when you put them on the hook. This makes it harder for the fish to get it off.
You will have to weed through the small ones, but there are some nice ones out there. One of the guys at the breakwall had 5 nice ones in his basket when I checked on Sunday morning. He had also thrown back about 30 small ones. Another guy was keeping all the ones that swallowed the hook because most of them were dying once you release them. The seagulls will eat most of the dead ones. He had about 30 in his bucket.

This morning [Monday 04/07] they are not biting very good. Before the sun came out real bright they were getting some, but that stopped with the sun on the water. They are still getting a few though.

On Sat there was a 30ft Charter boat drifting off the end of the Piers in Wilson. He may of been trying to catch some Browns. He was not trolling at first, just drifting. Later in the morning he started trolling. There was also a 16ft boat out in the lake trolling. I have no idea if they caught anyting or not.

Sunday I watched a 18 to 20 ft boat go out and he was having trouble because of the waves. He headed west after he cleared the piers. He was probably going trolling.

I was just down at the park and there is one guy fishing there with little luck and the same Charter boat is out trolling off Tuscarora State Park. I watched for a few minutes and they had no activity. All three days these boats are running East and West along the MUD LINE. The mud line is starting to go away, little by little.

12 mile creek East branch is pretty clear and fishable.

12 mile creek West branch is fishable and has had some bullhead activity during the day and at night. I have not heard what baits are working but red worms are usually real good for the bullheads.
