Re: Perch Rigs

Hi Mike S

I spent some time at the Youngstown dock last week catching perch. Rig most generally used is the simple 2 hook perch/crappie rig you can buy in almost any store that sells tackle. They are pretty cheap yet and work well. Put a 3/8 ounce sinker on the end and let 'er rip! Use a lighter sinker in the creeks.

Minnows was the best bait and the guys that tried worms just didn't work while I was there. Get yourself a long handled minnow net and dip your own bait right there. Be careful of the new bait rules. Simpl;y put; You are not allowed to transport any minnows from one place to another unless it is certified by your bait dealer and you have a receipt that says so. [A-1 Bait in Lewiston]

I watched guys fishing the Olcott pier on Sunday and they caught a few perch but not many for the number of people fishing.

The 425 Pier in Wilson was pretty good earlier but don't know about it now.

They were still catching a couple of bullheads in the east branch on Saturday near the Lake Road bridge. The bullhead run is abnout done and you had better get busy as the perch run is slowing down too especially near shore.

Bait rules are explained inside this website in one of the Bill Hilts columns.
