Remarks:
The Wetland Reserve Program (WRP) is a government program to help build marshes for water foul and shore birds on private property and to enhance existing wildlife habitat. Camouflage Acres is in the full easement program with 51 of the 102 acres. This means that the 51 acres can never be used for anything other than wildlife habitat and that no permanent structures can be built, no commercial logging, no grazing of livestock and any crops planted must remain standing for use by the wildlife. Yet the property may be kept private and posted, or open to the public, used as a game preserve and charge for hunting or even kept as a sanctuary for wildlife observation, photography, painting etc.
Camouflage Acres started out as an old over grown fruit farm with a small mix of livestock. It was purchased by my wife and I in May of 2000 with the idea of building the best wildlife habitat we could. I went to work as soon as we moved in and in 2001 we were awarded the Edwin B. Debus Habitat Cooperator of the Year 2001 from Pheasants Forever, Western New York Chapter #29.
After the WRP digging was complete in the fall of 2007, Camouflage Acres received the Ken Berner Memorial Wildlife Conservationist Award for the year 2007.
We are grateful for these wonderful awards but our true goal was to start our own business as a hunting preserve for whitetail deer, eastern wild turkey, ducks and geese. We believe that the habitat we have built and the existing wildlife here at Camouflage Acres could generate an easy $30K a year extra income with very little physical work as that part has all been done for you.
