A Little History Fact: Who was the popular Iditarod checkpoint of Rohn named after? More Little History Fact: Four dog teams that started in Iditarod heading for Seward, Alaska on the Iditarod trail where carrying 600 pounds of gold. The gold value is estimated to be valued at about a half million dollars. It is one of the largest shipments to head over the trail. (The mushers that accompanyed the teams were Bob Griffis, W.C. Mitchell, Siegfrid Wiig and Harry Whittemore).
