To aviod diaper covers that become brittle try using diaper covers that are made from either polyester, or nylon. I've been incon for over 20 years from nerve damage and the best diaper covers I've found are made by babykins. There are other manufactures that also make a good product, but I think the diaper covers from babykins are head and shoulders above the rest. Just my thoughts, but for sure try using polyester, or nylon diapers covers. Good luck!
