Botox question

Just looking for someone that has experience with botox bladder injections.

Re: Botox question

Yes, I had this procedure as I had been suffering from urinary incontinence for nearly 3 years. I had a urodynamic test, which showed severe bladder over activity. I was advised to have a cystoscopy and insertion of botulinum toxin. I wish I never went through with. It completely numbs the bladder and you have to self-catheterize. This proved to be incredibly painful and led to a uti. After the botox wore off I went back to wearing a adult nappy. It's your choice, but know the side effects can be worse than the trouble you were initially having.

Re: Botox question

Thank you. Ive heard differinf opinions. Is it uncomfortable? Can you tell when you need to go, but just cant? Do you have the urge? Do you feel your bladder is full?

Re: Botox question

In my case the procedure completely froze the bladder, which meant the bladder would fill, without any leaks. I would have to self catheterise up to 6 times a day. You do feel the need to go, but you can't as the bladder is frozen This was really painful. I know this doesn't happen in all cases. In some cases the bladder starts to work as normal. My bladder was damaged in a motorcycle accident, along with my spine. I am now able to do everything as normal. You will need to have the injections every 3 months and its not pleasant. I've gone back to wearing protection. It might be a case of it really works for you. Good luck with decision.

Re: Botox question

When you feel full, do you feel the need to rush to cath?

Re: Botox question

After trying all meds for sudden urge incontinence, I tried Botox. The next day I had full control of my bladder. My urologist said I had one of the worst cases of urge incontinence she had ever seen so maybe why I had great results. No leaking at all! It was wonderful for 2 months and then the urge incontinence returned with a vengeance. My doctor said the earliest I could repeat the Botox was 3 months so I have to wait like this with not only no control of my bladder but pain when the detruser muscle contracts that also hurts down my arms . I have only heard of one person before who had that pain. Sorry for being so long but to me it was well worth using the Botox. I just have to wait another month.

Re: Botox question

I resumed normal bladder function after the Botox but only lasted 2 months. It only pinched a little when I got it but I never had to cath. See my long answer below for more info.

Re: Botox question

I recently had Botox bladder injections in a hospital under sedation and have found very limited success. I was and still am completely Incontinent but perhaps when I use a clamp I might last a little longer before I have to release it. I'm lucky at least the Botox didn't completely block me so I would have to insert to relieve myself. Was it worth it - No especially since my Urologist required doing it under full sedation in a hospital. Do all Doctors require Full sedation for males in a hospital to do bladder injections? If not do you experience a lot of pain?

Re: Botox question

I have the procedure done quarterly. It helps in some senses. See I suffer from over activity, so bad Thad most of the time I don't feel the urge to go, it just flows. Now with the botox I can sure hold alot however by the time I have the sensation it's almost to late and I don't make it in time. I am looking into the bladder sling. I hope you have better luck. The procedure is not painful however i get sedated for it.

Re: Botox question

Hello,
I have an OAB and when walking etc , no sensation of voiding, can use 4/5/6 pads a day, when driving no real problem till i get out then it can be urgency. Am day 25 on Mirabegron 50mg another five weeks to go. Botox was going to be my next choice if the Mirabegron is not successful. Decision time soon!
