Charles Chary{Chery}

I am trying to find anything about a soldier named Charles Chary or Chery? His grave is in my ancestors cemetery which is in West Virginia near Morgantown and on his gravestone is Co.E 5th Iowa Infantry.Don't know who he is or How he would have ended up here so far from Iowa.Appreciate any help.

I can't tell you why he is buried there. Here is what info I found on him
Charles M. Chery Pvt 5th IA Inf. Co. K Age 35
Residence Lansing Iowa born New Jersey Mustered in July 1861 Mustered out July 30th 1864. Chattanuga TN. Experation of term of service. Matbe he was on his way back to New Jersey or Iowa and never made it to either place.

Chery applied for a pension on May 4, 1895 while living in south Dakota.
I could not find him in any U. S. Census with either spelling
