Israel and John Owens, First Iowa African Infantry (60th USCI)

Searching for letters, journals, and other personal and public documents referencing the life and military service of brothers Israel and John Owens, who served as privates in Company C of the First Iowa African Infantry, later the Sixtieth U.C. Colored Infantry. Israel (born about 1838) died of disease at Helena, Arkansas, in August 1864. John (born about 1841) became a corporal and drowned in February 1865. Their mother, Melinda, filed for and received a pension soon after the war. Any and all help appreciated.
