There is a regimental history on this unit that is available in reprint. Look for "A History of the First Regiment Iowa Cavalry Veteran Volunteers", by Charles H. Lothrop. With the reprint out, you should be able to find a copy through interlibrary loan. It's also for sale from Higginson Book Company in Massachusetts.
