Confederate flag?

Is the confederate flag ,the one we all know today, the same as the confederate flag during the actual civil war or were and are they different?

Re: Confederate flag?

Yes and no. Depends on what flag you are looking at. If the flag is square with red field and blue St Andrews Cross with white outline and stars, that was the flag used by infantry, cavalry and artillery - in various sizes - during the War for Southern Independence. If the same flag is rectangular, then it is usually associated with the Confederate Navy and the Army of Tennessee, and is the one "adopted" by the KKK. There were a number of other flags as well. The "Bonnie Blue" with the single white Star. The 1st National with the blue corner and Red-White-Red stripes, similar to the 'new' GA flag. the 2nd National, the CBF in the upper left corner and the field white. The 3rd National flag, the CBF in the upper left corner, white field, with red vertical stripe [never officially flew over the Confederacy but has been adopted by the League of the South]. A blue flag with a white circle in the middle showing the name of a unit and called the Hardee flag. Pink instead of the red of the CBF but the same otherwise. Reversed colors, white field with red St Andrews cross, blue trim and stars. etc. etc.
