Welcome to the Civil War in the Trans-Mississippi! This is a place where all who share an interest in the Civil War fought west of the Mississippi River can gather to ask questions, share information, and announce news.
There was a Joseph L. Coppoc, age 21 at enlistment on Sept. 27, 1861, as Third Corporal in G company 13th Iowa Infantry. Mustered Oct. 28, 1861. Promoted Second Corporal April 30, 1862. Discharged
for promotion as Captain of company D, Eighth Louisiana Colored Infantry, June 5, 1863. Maybe they made him a major in the 8th LA.

Just ran across this thread while researching. The reply with military service was correct. After the war, Joseph Coppoc was ordained as a Baptist Minister where he served several communities, including Spirit Lake, IA. If you wat more on the Coppoc family, email me at jcoppoc@iastate.edu.
